This is my second last day working at Maplesoft and I have to say I have learned a lot during my time here. Maplesoft is a company that specializes in STEM education software, high quality simulation and modeling and technical computing.
My job at Maplesoft was developing Math Apps: small interactive demonstrations of STEM concepts. My favourite part of my job is the creative freedom that I get. I can make a Math App on whatever my heart desires. Over the past month I have made apps that focused on chemistry, biology, number theory and many other interesting subjects. The Math App that I am currently working on is an interactive demonstration of the seven bridges of Konigsberg math problem and graph theory.
This job has opened up a whole new world of programming and math. My programming skills have improved greatly and I have learned about agile programming and time management. This internship has helped prepare me for work in the real world. The skills that you learn in a classroom only prepare you so much for real employment. It has also helped me make crucial decisions on my choices for university.
During lunch today the other SHAD working at Maplesoft and I played two games of pool. We both took one apiece. Pool games during lunch have become a small tradition for us during our lunch breaks. We will only have one more lunch together which makes me a feel some mixed emotions because my employment at Maplesoft is ending and school is about to begin.
Overall, have greatly enjoyed my month here at Maplesoft and I am sad to leave but everything must come to an end. I would like to thank everybody at Maplesoft (especially those in the math department) for such an enjoyable month.
