Apart from arriving an hour early and getting soaked by the rain, I would say my first day being an intern at Altagas went pretty well! When I first arrived, I had several orientations and was introduced to my supervisor. In addition to this, I was given my own workspace, computer and key card. By the time I had gotten settled in, it was already lunch time.
Once I ate my lunch I realized that I still had half an hour before I had to be back in the office, so obviously I had to play Pokémon GO as downtown Calgary is filled with Pokéstops. After my lunch break, my supervisor talked to me about some of the different projects that I was going to be involved in during my month at Altagas.
One of the major projects that he discussed was creating a map using Accumap software in which I would plot the areas of dedication. An area of dedication is a section of land in which a company agrees to have all of their produced gas processed by another company (in this case it would be Altagas). Following this discussion, I got to work on transferring information regarding several of the gas plants owned my Altagas as well as was introduced to the contracts in which I had to find the coordinates of the different areas of dedication.
I look forward to working more on this project and had a very enjoyable first day!
