When I walked into Hatch on the first day
I saw another SHAD-ling and said “hey!”
Then I went on a tour of the facility
And got to meet the Hatch community.
It’s been 12 days, but feels like forever!
Experiments, graphs and spreadsheets! Well I never
Thought that work could be this exciting
Phone calls, spreadsheets, experiments... it was worth writing
About how much I’ve learned from only two weeks here
In the friendly, intelligent, engaging atmosphere.
Spent hours talking to co-op students, too
Learning about all the cool things engineering can do
In a day, I’ll work 8 interesting hours
Starting with a walk through the parking lot and beautiful flowers.
Then I’ll greet the front desk and walk up three floors
Down the rows of cubicles, all with no doors
Because at Hatch, there’s a real community
Asking questions and sharing insight, you build immunity
To loneliness and fear; those feelings don’t live here.
I’ve done some readings and analyses, too.
Platinum group metals, slag, insulation, it’s true!
Dancing in student videos and discussing the Olympics during lunch
Has quickly built up a hunch
That this is
