After over a week at Heritage Gas, I can honestly say this is one of the most rewarding experiences in my life. Working a rather well rounded position, my fellow intern Christophe ML (SHAD McMaster) and I have been spending plenty of time learning and working. From touring a compressed natural gas facility to reviewing many cases related to bollards to determine their cause, this position has certainly combined many skills including writing, math, and even some detective work.
Today, we got to sit in on an environmental meeting to review and improve the company’s environmental policy and performance. Next, we worked on some maintenance and repair audits to determine the cause of the problem; we also presented the personal protective equipment policy to senior staff members through a game. Tomorrow, we drive for two hours to Amherst to tour another intriguing natural gas facility and learn about an exciting energy prospect we had never imagined before.
Throughout our time here we’ve also learned about the production of gas from animal manure, the inner workings of natural gas extraction and delivery, and many exciting opportunities in the engineering field. We also met with a self-taught software developer who single handily designed a system for the entire company to use to locate and service its customers. Quite frankly, I can’t wait to go back to work tomorrow and keep on learning!
