Today was the fourth day of my SHAD internship at NB Power (can’t believe the first week is gone already). It was a bit of a slow day because there was no cool visiting tours around places. The first three days was really exciting for me because we (three other SHADs and I) got to see and learn a lot about NB Power. On the first day, we were introduced to the office area where we are going to spend a lot of our time over the next month. The office is a nice place to work in with a lot of friendly people.
The second day was the most exciting day so far. Gillian, our “boss”, drove us to Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station for a day tour and it was phenomenal. To be able to see the inside of a nuclear plant (the control room, used fuel in the pool, the labs, etc.) was an amazing experience.
The third day was turned down a little as we got our assignments to work on. The assignment was to research into time of use rates how it affects peak energy demands. We started to work on that. That afternoon, we got to visit the RASD (Reduce and Shift Demand) lab and learn about ways to potentially reduce and shift the peak energy demands. Today was just a pure research day. So far, the people I work with have kept the SHAD spirit up and have really brought me back to the last month at SHAD. The next three weeks working at NB Power is going to be quite an experience, just like SHAD was.
